Short story collection ‘Mating Habits’ to be published in 2011

Exciting, exciting news. My short story collection The Mating Habits of College Girls & Other Stories is going to be published in the spring of 2011 by eight cuts gallery press.

eight cuts is a wonderful press based in Oxford, England that has so far this year put out two really great works. I cannot wait to be part of the family.

And, in the meantime, there’s a preview of one of the stories from the collection up at their site, called “Zombies.” Check it out here.

More details of the publication to come. Boom.

The Curse of the Drinking Class reviews ‘Sex Scene’

One of the most creative and insightful reviews thus far for Sex Scene: An Anthology comes via the wonderful website The Curse of the Drinking Class (which describes itself as “a sardonic book blog of lists”).

Why so creative, then? Well, as mentioned above, the site works off of lists, so for Sex Scene, they listed “6 Moods”–6 hand-picked pieces from the anthology and the songs they believe best represent them.  I have to say, it’s quite fantastic and startlingly accurate.

An excerpt:

The collection of vignettes and short stories in Sex Scene: An Anthology attempt to unravel the web of human desire (if there was a theme song to the anthology, it would be Bjork’s Human Behaviour). And, just like in the movies, they land up doing much more. This collection of stories not only points to the nuances of our desires, but each scene is a prism, hinting at an infinitely more complex spectrum of human behaviour.

Oh yes. Make sure you give this one a read…and a listen. Check out the full review here.

Two more reviews of ‘Sex Scene’

The first, from Quiet Riot Girl:

Sex Scene Anthology blurs the boundaries between all these things, and in doing that, it does what the best writing can do. It helps us imagine how things could be different, and lives, including our sex lives, more free.”

The second, from PJ Fletcher:

“If you have the time, I urge you to read [Sex Scene: An Anthology]. The collection was stimulating (I typed that with a straight face), and it did have an impact on me, maybe it will affect you too.”

Moxie Mezcal reviews ‘Sex Scene’

A new (and awesome) review of Sex Scene: An Anthology is up over at MoxieMezcal.com.

A sample: “It’s extremely satisfying as a reader to play armchair psychoanalyst while noting the divergent styles and comfort levels in handling the subject matter.”

Hear me recite poetry on The Word Count podcast

Richard Wood (Twitter handle @rbwood) is a fantastic writer who hosts/runs a podcast called The Word Count (which is free via iTunes).

The most recent episode is live, featuring a handful of amazing writers reading their own works, including me reading three poems (“At the Crick,” “A Bar in Wixom, Michigan, on a Tuesday Night,” and “Once More the Stars”).  It’s a  long episode, clocked in at just over an hour, but it’s definitely a good listen (and, again, it’s free), so follow the links below and enjoy.

Check out details of the podcast and its participants here, and find the direct link to iTunes here.
